I don't know about you all, but I'm very excited for spring migration. In fact this spring migration will my very first! I'm super excited! One thing I'm excited for is all the Warblers that will pass through the Mountain State ( West Virginia ). There are over 30 different Warblers that will go straight through the Mountain State, give or take a few species. Meanwhile the American Woodcocks have just arrived in West Virginia, during breeding season. I just love hear their beautiful calls and songs! Fun fact: the American Woodcock is one of our first migratory bird to breed in the eastern United States. How could one ever forget the "PEENT" sound from the American Woodcock? It's so memorable, at least in my opinion.Â
Anyways, back to the subject!
If you cannot tell I'm super excited for my very first spring migration!Â
One of my favorite tools that is related to bird migration is, BirdCast.Â
It is awesome for forecasting bird migration in your area. The only downside is it only works in the United States. So if you live in the United States, that's great!Â
You can also get "light out" alerts on BirdCast.Â
I definitely recommend checking it out.Â
Right now Ducks are migrating in my area.Â
So definitely be on the lookout for early migrants.Â

I haven't heard woodcocks yet this year but I can't wait to!
The woodcocks are funky. They’re almost like one of those weirdo birds you’d see in Asia or Australia, not as odd as the kiwi, but they definitely look exotic. They’re also very cute and their plumage is beautiful.
I haven’t heard woodcocks since last year, in early autumn, and I’ve never seen them before, in person. They also tend to sing at night, which is very odd.
